Checking out some Local Fish Stores in San Antonio

Yesterday my wife and I made a trip down to San Antonio to run some errands.

While we were down there I took some time to check out some of the local fish stores down there. Two of the stores we checked out were pretty bad. One had most of their fish housed in a garage like setup with open gapes to the outdoors in the garage door. It was pretty hot in the room and it was only in the 80s. I can't imagine how the temperatures would soar in South Texas Summers. The livestock we saw was pretty average at best as well.

It was our second time to visit Elegant Reef and we are still really impressed. Their fish all looked healthy and happy as well. I'm always blown away by their central 500 gallon reef tank as well. They have an amazing selection of coral in it and some nice fish as well. Including a stunning Naso and Sohal Tang.

I spoke to the owner for a while and he was very knowledgeable. We spoke about the aggression of their Sohal Tang and how best to keep an Achilles Tang. He also gave me a great tip of acclimating fish after quarantine in your display tanks sump. This is a great idea, especially for fragile fish like an Achilles Tang. Taking out getting acclimated to new water while finding his away around the tank with other tangs is a great idea.

Also saw a super nice Purple Tang at another store. It was nice to see how nice a healthy Purple Tang can look! Fun little trip overall :)
